Why do fluorescent wands glow? The glow sticks are made up of a substance called hydrogen peroxide inside. They also contain a glass capsule with a liquid called phenyl oxalate ester inside, the substance that gives it colour. By bending the wand in half, the two substances mix together,and a chemical reaction known as chemiluminescence occurs. It will look magical!
